CALD３は、学習者の英語表現能力を高めるための配慮が行き届いています。よい英文を書くには、collocation に留意するだけでなく、同じ言葉の繰り返しを避ける必要があります。CALD３では、Word partners for heat とか Other ways of saying hot というハイライト表示のコラムで、heat の collocation や hot の同意語を示しているほか、Common mistake とか Usage note というコラムで、語法上の注意をしています。

第３版は、通常の見出し語は黒字、重要語が dark blue 表示に変わり、見やすくなりました。新語は、環境、インターネット、技術など分野別の一覧表が巻末に添付されており、新語をまとめて覚えることができます。巻末には、Writing essays という簡にして要を得た essay の書き方のガイドもあります。また、Let's Talk という欄もあり、意見の述べ方など会話の基本的表現が要領よくまとめられています。

本書のCDは、見やすさと使い勝手が向上しました。発音は、単語を入力したとき自動的に英米のどちらかが聞けるようにセットできますが、至る所に UKとUSのアイコンが設定されているので、いつでも聞くことができます。QUICKfind や SUPERwrite は相変わらず便利です。SMART thesaurus は、（起動が少し遅いのが玉に瑕ですが）見やすいだけでなく使いやすくなりました。

CD版では、collocation や語法上の注意は、Collocations や Common Learner Errors をクリックすれば瞬時に表示されます。用例は、旧版と同じものが多いのですが、Extra Examples をクリックすると、ペーパー版にはない多数の例文が見やすく表示されます。例文の拡充はCD版CALD３の大きなメリットです。自分のメモを書き込む機能もあり、まさに至れり尽くせりです。PC英文ライターの必携CDと言えるでしょう。
